Uxmal, ‘Chac Mask’, Central Yucatan, Puuc Style.

Chac Mask of Uxmal

Uxmal was visited by Stephens and Catherwood in 1841 and again in 1843. A large ceremonial site, Uxmal boasts a myriad of structures, mainly in the Puuc style.
Having visited this site frequently while traveling from one place to another, I have accomplished several sketches and drawings.

The detail illustration is of the Chac Mask at the base of the pyramid "El Adivino". This structure is also known as the House of the Magician and was constructed in several phases during the Terminal Classic Period. Today you can no longer climb to the top of this pyramid and it is best viewed from across the way, at the House of the Turtles.

Uxmal is a beautiful site and highly recommended.
