Labna ‘The Arch’ - Yucatan. Terminal Classic Period.

Labna in Yucatan

Labna is a Terminal Classic site featuring a palace, some portions of which are still standing. There is also pyramid temple here, supported by a heap of rubble, known as "El Mirador".

The famous Arch of Labna, which was visited by Stephens and Catherwood in 1842, is part of a passageway between two small plazas or courtyards. The west face of the arch was illustrated by Catherwood and has the most fascinating details.

A sacbe from the Palace Structure leads to the Arch, with its detailed moldings, columns and niches. One can also see depictions of two Maya huts (na’s) in relief on each side of the archway, as well as the remains of a Chac Mask on the northwest corner of the structure.

As this site of Labna is along 'La Ruta Maya’ tour bus route, it is easily accessible by paved road and lies bout 25 miles from Uxmal.
